Sandra Gibson:
Treasurer
I have been a part of West Texas Wildlife Association since 1990, which is
when it was organized. I have previously served as the Secretary and I am
currently the Treasurer.
When West Texas Wildlife Association began there were incentives on our part
to provide help in any way we could to make the Zoo a more quality place for
the animals and to help make it an educational experience especially for the
children. After 17 years as an organization, our incentives are as great as
they were from the beginning. This organization is made up of very dedicated
volunteers.
At my age, most of my goals are probably considered "Short Term". I would
like to see the Amarillo Zoo accredited by the AZA. A "Long Term" goal would
be for an Education/Conservation Center to be built at the Zoo. This has
been a goal of West Texas Wildlife Association from the beginning.

Sherry Kerr Forbes:
President
I am a single mom with 2 daughters and I work in the banking industry.
I have been a member of Zoo Friends since 1995. I was a Board Member and
Vice President before moving into my current position as President.
Why am I involved with Zoo Friends? Reason why is because I would like to
see a place for anyone who wants to learn about animals, conservation and
how their actions can play a very important part of keeping the world in a
very important balancing act. From not littering to turning off lights when
they aren't being used to learning about animals that are becoming
endangered. We need more people to be involved in Zoo Friends a.k.a. West
Texas Wildlife Association. We would like to have new insight and direction
to help bring this organization to the forefront of being a very active
group in Amarillo and the Panhandle.
My father, Bob Kerr, was proactive in teaching people about reptiles. I
lived with Galapagos turtles, Spider Monkeys, Pythons, Boa Constrictors,
Caymen Alligators and many other assorted creatures. It was just in my blood
to be involved with animals. I would like to pass down my father's legacy to
my 2 girls. I would like to see them become proactive not just with reptiles
but with all animals. I would like to teach my girls to teach others about
the environment and conservation efforts that we all can do in our
communities. My oldest daughter, Melissa, is working on her Teaching degree
so she is on the road and hopefully will incorporate her grandad's wishes to
teach others about animals. Sarah is 10 so she is just enjoying life at this
time.
Thank you for taking a minute to learn more about the officers and board
members. We would like to see your picture and biographies here along with
ours.
Take care,
Sherry Kerr Forbes .
